After obtaining his Bachelor's degree from OAC in 1951, Herman Tiessen worked for one year in the Fruit and Vegetable Branch of the Ontario Department of Agriculture. He earned his Master's degree from Michigan State University in 1953 and his Ph.D. in 1955. Later that year, he joined the faculty of the Department of Horticulture at OAC. He died on Dec. 10, 1987. George Irving Christie was born in Winchester, Dundas County, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) in Guelph in 1902 before migrating to the United States for post-graduate training. He acquired a B.S.A. degree in Iowa in 1903 and his D.Sc. from the same university in 1925. Christie became secretary of the Indiana Corn Growers in 1906.
